The Nautical Archaeology Society has been involved in designing and establishing a number of diver trails in England and Scotland that facilitate access to protected wrecks.

In England these dive trails are often run by the protected wreck licensees and charter boat skippers. The dive trails enable interested divers to get responsible access to protected wreck sites.

Historic England and Historic Environment Scotland have both supported the development of all the UK dive trails and the interpretation materials they include. Divers visiting the trails get the benefit of the insight and orientation provided by the trails and also the experience of the licensed teams and their archaeologists.

Some of these trails include virtual dives compatible with PC's and mobile devices to allow everyone to experience the pleasure of exploring a historic wreck.
