Thanks to National Lottery players, this grant will help NAS deliver their strategic plan to build awareness of that threat and greater engagement and support from a larger and more diverse public audience and private sector organisations.

This will involve new involvement and fundraising strategies, additional staff, trustee and volunteer training, the re-development of marketing and fundraising materials and greater use of social media to reach a larger and broader range of people.

Mark Beattie Edwards, the Chief Executive Officer of NAS, said: “This National Lottery grant presents and amazing opportunity for the Society to become a more resilient organisation that is fit to serve its communities in the future.  The grant will help us deliver a stronger message of why nautical heritage needs greater public support and private sector involvement to withstand threats and to adapt to a changing world”.

Michelle Roffe, Head of HLF South East, commented: “Thanks to money raised by National Lottery players, this project will help to strengthen the Nautical Archaeology Society and ensure that the UK’s rich and fascinating nautical heritage is better managed, protected and shared with a wide range of people”.
